A handful of Aboriginal students as well as a student who is deaf, worked collaboratively with their teaching team, Shannon O'Connor and Czack Bero and Cultural Pillar Leader, Kristi Pigram, to retell the Stations of the Cross, Jesus' last journey in Standard Australian English, Aboriginal English and AUSLAN. These translations were recorded and saved on QR codes and attached to student artworks displayed in our Holy Place garden. Classes participated in a reflective “Journey to the Cross” accessing the stories told in SAE, Aboriginal English and AUSLAN. This student-led initiative allowed kids to make meaningful connections to this important story in our Catholic faith. Providing this linguistic and culturally diverse experience promoted a deeper understanding of the life and mission of Jesus Christ.
