The installation of cockatoo nesting hollows “Cockatubes” at Lumen Christi College aims to contribute to the preservation and protection of the black cockatoo population in Western Australia. Students and staff have an authentic opportunity to practice stewardship and learn industry skills on a project with the potential to have significant influence on the survival of the black cockatoo population, particularly the threatened birds within the species. Observation and recording of activity at the nesting hollows will contribute to a larger body of research being gathered around Western Australia on the nesting and breeding habits of black cockatoos. We are proud to be able to contribute to the preservation of these beautiful birds.
