HPCPS Staff identified a need to pursue a contemporary reading approach that was scientifically proven, and evidence-based. The staff began an inquiry process pursuing best practices in reading instruction. Research ensued on how to better teach students learning to read, so they move along the continuum on the shift to read to learn. It was important to pursue an approach with a solid foundation, supportive of the developmental stages of reading. Staff discovered the Science of Reading and began the journey of embedding this approach into our practice because when we know better, we do better.
