A formative component of our Wellbeing Program is our Year 12 Academic Excellence Mentoring Program where each student in the cohort is assigned a teacher mentor from the Principal to the classroom teacher to meet with regularly, outside of classroom hours. The purpose of the Mentoring Program is to encourage and support our students to strive for academic and personal excellence, support the building of good study habits and encourage relationship building between students and staff. Students who have strong positive relationships with teachers, and who feel like someone at school cares about them, are shown to have higher attendance, academic and wellbeing outcomes. The Mentoring Program and Wellbeing Program reflect Newman College’s shared commitment to maximising student results and outcomes, creating a positive culture and the spirit of excellence and showcasing and celebrating student achievement.
