The Noongar Language Program at Santa Clara School, taught by Miss Maddie Smith, a proud young Noongar yoka, takes our students on a journey of Noongar boodja, that is Noongar country, as she shares her language, knowledge and personal experience of the land and culture through a certified language program, in which she meets the Curriculum requirements. Our students and wider community develop an awareness to better understand the combined history of Australia and promote a deeper understanding and appreciation for the Noongar culture and people, supporting the transformation journey promoted in CEWA’s Vision for Learning. It is a positive way to bridge the gap and strengthen the relationship between our school and the local Aboriginal people, a key component of CEWA’s Transforming Lives Strategy, instilling in our students the role they play as instruments of Christ in our modern world.
