To celebrate Mercedes College’s 175th Anniversary and continue the Catholic tradition by walking the same path as Jesus, activities have taken place throughout the year to share our Mercy story with the wider community.
Primary schools are given the opportunity to visit the College. Children participate in a variety of ‘Mercy’ experiences including tours, a physical theatre dramatisation of the Sisters’ arrival, making miniature suitcases embellished with travel stickers, and music using buckets and customised sticks to explore ‘found percussion’ in a fun and energetic way. Through these activities they learnt about the College’s history; and how music, drama and art became an integral part of their lives. The Sisters of Mercy saw the Arts as a key component of a student’s education.
The primary school tours sow the seed of interest in Catholic education and the Mercy charism.
