Teachers at the school were encouraged to plan experiences for their students that promoted critical thinking and a deeper comprehension of the impact of the European settlement on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as a better understanding of and celebration of culture. Our aim was to develop empathy for the experiences of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the use of authentic literature and meaningful experiences. The School community celebrated the learning with a celebration called 'Djooroobidiny' ('Go along happily') which exhibited the fruits of the children's learning.
