Building Deaf Community – one sign at a time!

St Mary’s College fosters a vibrant deaf community around a profoundly deaf student, championing inclusion and connection. Auslan training for staff, students, and families, peer visits, and the employment of a First Nations deaf Teaching Assistant break communication barriers and build cultural understanding. Infrastructure upgrades such as visual alarms and race-start lighting, along with community celebrations like Hearing Awareness Week, deepen engagement. This initiative reflects the Gospel mission—welcoming all, celebrating diversity, and nurturing every learner’s dignity.
