Auslan at Orana, Language for All

Orana Catholic Primary School introduced Auslan as a second language across all year levels, inspired by CEWA’s Vision and a commitment to inclusivity. Weekly lessons from Kindergarten to Year Six, have enriched student learning and fostered empathy, communication and cultural awareness. Auslan is integrated across the curriculum in Science, Music and Religious Education. Highlights have included signed Acknowledgment of Country; the Christmas Concert performance and Orana school prayer at school and our parish. The initiative has empowered students to use Auslan in real-world contexts and reflects CEWA’s Vision for Learning through promoting quality relationships and engagement for all.
