Bridging Cultures, Building Community: St Mary’s–Taiji Sister City

St Mary’s College plays a vital role in strengthening the longstanding Sister City partnership between Broome and Taiji, Japan, through a rich cultural exchange program involving students, families, the Shire of Broome and the local Japanese community. The program provides authentic opportunities for intercultural learning, language development and relationship-building. Through shared educational, cultural and community experiences, students develop global perspectives while fostering mutual respect and understanding. The exchange culminates in community events celebrating the enduring connection between Broome and Taiji, demonstrating how collaborative partnerships can create meaningful engagement, strengthen community ties and prepare young people to be active global citizens.
