Creating Sensory Spaces for SWD Students in Partnership With Curtin University Occupational Therapy School

Mary MacKillop Catholic Community Primary School BALLAJURA

To support students with disabilities and additional learning needs, Mary MacKillop Catholic Community Primary School partnered with Curtin University’s Occupational Therapy Honours students to create two dedicated sensory spaces. Developed in collaboration with school therapists, the project also produced a series of educational videos to support staff learning in the neuroscience of behaviour, sensory processing, and emotional regulation. Alongside professional development in the Berry Street Educational Model, this initiative promotes sensory safety and emotional wellbeing—enhancing engagement and learning for students across the early years.
