Digital Citizenship Through Progressive Learning: A Comprehensive K-12 Digital Literacy Framework

St Mary’s College BROOME

St Mary’s College, Broome created a unique approach where students earn special digital identities as they grow: “Digital Explorers” (early years) through “Digital Innovators” (secondary school). Instead of educators struggling with technology problems, Year 6 Digital Leaders teach younger children and educators and create helpful mini videos. This peer-teaching system lets teachers focus on actual learning while older students develop leadership and Catholic values of service. Students master age-appropriate Tech Smart Skills from basic iPad operation to advanced digital citizenship. The program includes 1:1 devices, visual displays, and systematic staff training, transforming technology from a teaching burden into a community learning tool.
