In 2023, St Francis of Assisi employed three graduate teachers for the upcoming school year. The school’s plan was to support these ECTs in multiple ways to help them face the realities of full-time classroom teaching and improve their teaching. The support mechanisms put in place included assigned mentors, dedicated release time to regularly meet one-on-one with their mentors, further release time to engage in learning walks, as well as enrolment in CEWA’s ECT professional development program. The focus was to help these teachers navigate what would be a challenging first year of their new careers.
