Kindergarten Transition Initiative: Belonging Before Beginning

St Joseph’s School transformed its Kindergarten transition process by providing flexible, family-responsive opportunities that fostered a welcoming, inclusive and christ-centred start for every child. The process commenced in Term 4, 2025 and included Stay and Play sessions, classroom visits, parent workshops, Kindy Café gatherings, and family and educator surveys. Ongoing observations enabled staff to develop comprehensive understandings of each child. In 2026 students commenced as one cohort, interacting with all peers and teachers before transitioning into permanent classes in Week 5. This approach strengthened partnerships, informed class formation, enabled early intervention, and ensured children felt known and valued.
