The Mercy College primary-based pedagogical initiative to Numeracy serves as a dynamic and transformative educational tool that effectively inspires and supports our students in their mathematical journey. By encompassing a whole school scope and sequence, the program ensures a comprehensive and cohesive learning experience for all students as they work together to “talk maths”. Employing a diverse teaching approach, including explicit instruction with consistent vocabulary, student-led discovery, hands-on activities, and independent tasks fosters a deeper conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts. Teacher-designed assessments measure progress, allow targeted instruction and create a culture of improvement, motivation, and deeper engagement with mathematics.
