Mary’s Mount Primary School GOOSEBERRY HILL
Mary’s Mount Primary School’s Firewise Garden Project is a student-led initiative promoting fire safety and sustainability in the school’s bushfire-prone area. Year 5 and 6 STEM students researched FireWise landscaping principles, designed a garden prototype, and secured community support to bring their vision to life. The garden features native plants, wildlife sanctuaries, and recycled materials chosen for their fire-resistant properties. Students were involved in every stage, from research, planning, applying for funding, planting and presenting a workshop. Now this living classroom continues to evolve, inspiring environmental stewardship and resilience while educating peers and visitors about climate action and fire preparedness.
