Ngala Maya – Yarning Circle

Holy Cross College ELLENBROOK

Yarning is common practice among First Nations Peoples as it is fundamental to learning. Yarning circles allow for the sharing of lived experience, learning from one another and sharing knowledge (Cantley, 2024). Holy Cross College is home to “Ngala Maya,” which translates to “Our Place” in the Noongar language. The design of Ngala Maya incorporates the six Noongar seasons, created by First Nations students. The concept of the yarning circle emerged from a staff member’s vision for a space where students could gather, while also serving as a visual representation of the traditional custodians of the land.
