Sacred Heart Mathematics Improvement Initiative

At Sacred Heart Primary School, Thornlie, a strategic whole-school approach is being implemented to strengthen Mathematics teaching and improve student outcomes. Through engagement with Scitech Lighthouse Maths, CEWA Mathematics Consultants, Key Teacher Numeracy Professional Learning, and the Early Childhood Numeracy Project, the school is building teacher expertise, leadership, and confidence in evidence-based mathematics instruction. The school’s focus on problem solving, reasoning, rich differentiated tasks, Number Talks, and effective curriculum planning is creating deeper conceptual understanding for all learners. Complementing this, targeted Year 1 and 2 intervention programs, including Bond Blocks and EMU, provide support, ensuring every student can succeed in Mathematics.
