The FR(AI)NE Academy

Ursula Frayne Catholic College’s Fr(ai)ne Academy is a K–12 professional learning initiative underpinned by Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development and the Ignatian Jesuit teaching model. It empowers teachers to use generative AI as a scaffold for learning rather than a shortcut, enabling students to co-construct knowledge, reflect critically, and build metacognitive skills. Rooted in the “Process, not Product” philosophy, the program challenges cognitive offloading and fosters ethical, reflective, creative engagement. Guided by the AI Assessment Scale and tools like the AI Interaction Sheet, the initiative aligns with CEWA’s Vision for Learning, ensuring AI supports, not replaces, the human learning journey.
