Waste to Wonder

Emmaus Catholic Primary School DAYTON

Waste to Wonder began as a Year 5 STEM challenge and has grown into a whole-school movement transforming food waste into opportunity. Students designed and manage a worm farm that turns food scraps and recycled paper into nutrient-rich “Worm Wizz” liquid fertiliser. They lead waste collection, educating the whole school, solving problems and selling their product to families. The initiative reduces landfill, supports school gardens and creates resources for future sustainability projects. Most importantly, it empowers students to become environmental leaders, showing that small actions can create lasting change. At Emmaus, Waste to Wonder is turning waste into wonder, learning and stewardship.
